At the beach at Ushaka.
Desi discovering sand and Maddie on lifeguard duty!!
Mummy and Desi chillin' in the shade.
Leaving the beach...get that sand out!!!
Painted faces at Moyo restaurant.Well the rain ceased this morning, so we decided to venture out of the house again after 3 days of being grounded and doing some good bonding with Desi. I also had enough of going through CIC and Passport Canada paperwork....I will definitely put together a word document as a guideline for MOT and future families choosing the C-14 route.
We decided to hit Ushaka complex, which has been highly recommended. It's great for tourists like us, as they have great shops, restaurants, Marine World & water park, public beach & a pier with a great view of the bluff and port as well as the Durban city skyline.
We hit the beach first. Since we were one of the 1st families there, we were able to snag some shade under a beach hut...much to Lisa's relief and benefit!!! Maddie and I ventured into the warm Indian Ocean and had a blast as the waves came crashing into shore...very strong under tow!!! I can now officially cross off my list another ocean that I have swum in! Maddie and Desi loved playing in the sand...so much that they both tried to eat it...Siyabonga on purpose and Maddie by mistake. The hot South African sun and smell of the ocean made for a great beach outing.
Moyo restaurant at the Ushaka complex is a must for anyone visiting Durban, as they are right on the beach with great views of the Indian Ocean. Everything on the menu is South African and the atmosphere is great. We did lunch there today, but for dinner, they have live entertainment. We're hoping to go to dinner at Moyo's Stellenbosch location in the Cape next week. Definitely try the chicken bunny chow...mmm! Lisa and Maddie even had their faces painted while we waited for our meals. All part of the experience.
Ushaka Marine World has great shows, dolphin & seal and the aquariums are phenomenal (good to do if it's raining) and a great waterpark (lazy river, kiddie pool and water slides). You can even snorkel with some exotic fish in one of aquariums and dive (in a glass cage) in the shark tank...no thanks!
Maddie's favourite part of the aquarium was the florescent jellyfish swimming under a black light. We were in total awe of the sharks and they seemed attracted to the observation glass, as they kept swimming up to us.
Well, we're off to the bush in thke morning, so we'll try and touch base on Satsurday evening here.
