Finally Home

Having a very good day.

Maddie and her best friend forever...Courtney!

Listening to some tunes with Mummy on the flight home.

Making funny faces with Daddy!

Home at last with Nono there to greet us.

Well it's great to be finally home again after being away for 35 days. Flying home was great as both Maddie and Desi managed to sleep through pretty much all the flights...Desi logged 15 hours of sleep on the 18 hour flight from Joburg to Washington...what a champ! Everything went smoothly with Desi's temporary passport...in Joburg, the customs officer enquired about his S.A. passport and it felt great to say that he doesn't have one because he is Canadian. No problems going through the U.S. either...other than they haven't seen too many temporary Canadian passports...it really stands out too because it's white!

Anyways, the only glitch in our travel home was picking up our luggage once in Toronto...which didn't accompany us on our flight from Washington. Oh well, it's being delivered today, so the delay allowed us to just unwind and not worry about unpacking. Nono and Dziadziu were at the airport to greet us and it was great to see them...Maddie was very excited to be home and gave both of them big hugs.

We left the driving to the Grandads since due to lack of sleep and 5 weeks of driving on the other side of the car and road, it might have been a bit challenging...I may have ended up on the west bound lanes heading east :-)

It was great to pull into good old Hesham Dr. and see our house. Walking in through the door with Desi made it all so real finally...we had come full circle and were home with our son! Desi cautiously did some exploring with his finger in his mouth of course...it's his little security comfort, but it didn't take long to loosen up once Maddie showed him the toy room...giddy up...it was play time finally with some cool boy toys.

The jetlag didn't set in until the late afternoon and we tried to keep the kids up as long as possible to try and get them back on our time, but by 5:30pm both Maddie and Desi were out with no fussing and each in their own rooms...it felt really nice to have that once empty bedroom now being used by Desi. Mummy followed shortly there afterand I tried to hang in as long as I could, but by 7:30 pm, the TV was watching me!!!

Desi had a good first night in his new home, but woke up early (3:30am argh!) a little upset with his new surroundings...but after some TLC from daddy and a bottle...all was good, but it was time to play again...

It's good to be home, but we are missing South Africa already...especially the weather. Thanks again Jan for welcoming us into your beautiful home and letting us take over your life for 5 weeks. Our stay with you will always be a special part of Desi's adoption story.

We're taking an easy day today just unwinding from the travel and awaiting our luggage...and going through a mound of mail!

See you soon!
