Here we go...it took a little while, but we've finally got our connection all set-up.
January 7th & 8th
We awoke at 5:15 am to quite the snow storm. After loading up the limo, we headed for the airport. Our flight was delayed by 2 hours due to the storm but luckily, we had planned for such an event and finally made it to Washington with ample time to catch our flight to Johannesburg, SA. While in Dulles airport in Washington we bumped into a very popular celebrity and had to stop to take a photo…Yes we can! Maddie was excited to help pull our carry on suitcase… an experienced world traveler at age three and a half!
Anyways, it was off to Jo’burg around at 5:40pm and for the next 15 hours we sat on that plane entertaining Maddie, ourselves and trying to catch some zzz’s where possible. It was easier for some than others… We each had our own TV on demand screen mounted in the seat in front of us and Maddie watched the same episode of Angelina Ballerina over and over again, and laughing hysterically at exactly the same part every time. We were lucky to score four seats, which allowed for Maddie to stretch out on two seats to sleep. We arrived in Jo’burg on schedule and boarded our connecting flight to Durban with in a few hours. It was already very warm in Johannesburg, but once we hit Durban (30 hours after leaving our house), we knew jeans were NOT the right attire!!! Can’t say we’re missing the cold and snow though!
Besides the temperature (27 degrees), we received a very warm welcome from Janet and Warren who picked us up at the airport. By then our second or maybe third wind had kicked in and the drive back to Gillits was much quicker than I remember. I guess distances seem so much further, and drives so much longer, when you’re a kid! David and Candi joined us all for a welcome drink.
Anyways, after some unpacking it was off to bed to catch up on some much needed sleep and rest.
